In connection with the recent attack on Udayagiri Police Station, three policemen have been suspended for negligence in duty. Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar took action following the stone-pelting incident on February 10.
The suspended officers include Rupesh, the Sub-Inspector of Udayagiri station; Prakash, the intelligence head constable; and Santosh, who was responsible for social media monitoring. Their failure to act on a potential threat is believed to have contributed to the escalation of violence.
The unrest began when Sathish, accused of posting an objectionable message on social media, was brought to the station. Despite having prior knowledge, no preventive measures were taken, leading to tensions spiraling into a riot. Police sources stated that timely intervention could have averted the incident.
Following the attack, SI Rupesh had initially been transferred to the Automation Centre at the Commissioner’s office. However, in light of the findings, he and two others have now been suspended.
This development has intensified discussions about accountability within law enforcement and the importance of proactive policing to prevent communal disturbances.
