MYSURU: A tragic accident claimed the lives of two Mysuru youths early Monday morning when their bike crashed into a roadside barrier and fell into a deep gorge near Sampaje, on the Kodagu-Dakshina Kannada border. The victims, identified as Manoj (32), a loan agent from 1st Cross, Gandhinagar, and Pavan (29), a medical representative from 6th Cross, Gandhinagar, were killed instantly.
The incident occurred around midnight when Manoj and Pavan were traveling on their Royal Enfield motorcycle to Dharmasthala. The bike struck a metal crash barrier and plunged into a 15-foot-deep gorge on Koinadu Road. The accident is believed to have happened between 1:30 and 2:00 a.m., but it went unnoticed due to the lack of traffic on the road at that time.
The scene was discovered by passersby in the morning, who found the wrecked bike and the bodies. They alerted the local Madikeri Rural Police, who arrived at the location, conducted an investigation, and registered a case. The bodies were later transported to the Madikeri Government Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
The metal crash barriers had been installed after the Madikeri-Mangaluru Road was upgraded to a National Highway. The police continue to investigate the accident, focusing on the road conditions and potential factors leading to the crash.
