Hubli: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has formally approached the city Corporation and Police Department to request approval and security assistance for the partial clearance of Idga Maidan premises, situated near Rani Channamma Circle. This clearance is a critical step in the ongoing construction of a city flyover, which is a key infrastructure project for Hubli.
Project Overview
Efforts have now commenced to acquire land necessary to fast-track the initial phase of this ambitious project, which is estimated to cost ₹300 crore. The clearance will impact approximately 10-15 per cent of the Idga Maidan area. Specifically, this includes the stretch from Channamma Circle to Court Circle and from Channamma Circle to Sangolli Rayanna Circle.
Key Construction Plans
The construction plans are extensive and include several significant elements:
- Pillars Installation: Two major pillars will be erected: one in front of Kamath Hotel and another near the highmast pillar at Sangolli Rayanna Circle. These pillars are expected to be substantial, reaching a minimum height of 5.5 metres, with variations based on their base dimensions.
- Suburban Police Station: Around 20 per cent of the space within the suburban police station will be vacated to facilitate the development.
- Ramp Construction: A solid ramp, 300 metres in length, will be constructed as part of the four-lane flyover that will stretch 350 metres from Channamma Circle to the Titan Eye Showroom, situated opposite Mahanagara Palike.
- Additional Pillar: Another pillar will be installed along a remaining 50-metre segment near Kamath Hotel and Rayanna Circle.
Infrastructure and Land Allocation
To accommodate the new flyover, service roads and footpaths measuring a total of 7.50 metres on both sides of the flyover will be designated. Notices for land acquisition have been issued to adjacent shop owners and commercial establishments to ensure a smooth transition and to address any concerns or compensations that may be required.
Impact and Future Steps
The partial clearance of Idga Maidan is expected to be a critical move towards enhancing the city’s infrastructure, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity. The involvement of the city Corporation and Police Department will be crucial in managing the impact of this construction on local businesses and residents.
With the project set to advance, local stakeholders and residents are encouraged to stay informed and cooperate with the authorities to ensure that the construction proceeds smoothly and with minimal disruption.
