Udupi: To preserve public safety and maintain law and order, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidyakumari has announced a new restriction on access to the district’s islands. The move comes in response to concerns about unlawful activities after dark.
According to the directive, all 50 islands in Udupi district will be off-limits to the public from 6 PM to 6 AM. The order prohibits individuals from entering or engaging in any form of activity during this 12-hour nightly window.
Officials say the restriction aims to deter illegal practices, safeguard the natural environment, and ensure the general well-being of residents and visitors alike. The district administration has emphasized that these measures are precautionary and in the public’s best interest.
Authorities have made it clear that any breach of the order will result in strict legal consequences. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to monitor the islands and enforce the curfew diligently.
The step is part of a broader initiative to enhance security and prevent misuse of these secluded island areas during night hours, which are often prone to unauthorized gatherings or criminal behavior.
Residents and tourists are urged to cooperate fully and avoid travel to any of the islands during the restricted hours. This new rule is expected to remain in place until further notice.
