Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka is a series of programmes organised to celebrate the Decennial Year of News Karnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spearhead Media Group to achieve this milestone.
One of the programmes under Thank You Karnataka series is Walk the Special Path, a show promoting sensitivity, awareness and most importantly, social inclusion of disabled children, which is aired every Monday.
The guest of the seventh episode held on Monday November 28 was Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Director, Speranza Inspiring Communication, Mangaluru, and Assistant Professor, Fr. Muller College of Speech & Hearing. Speech Therapy was the topic for the day. The anchor person for the programme is Meena Noronha.

Ramandeep Kaur discussed the common speech problems among specially-abled children. She stated, if the child continues to have unclarified speech after four years of age then one needs to consult a doctor.
Dr. Ramandeep Kaur explained the ways and means to avail of the best speech therapist and the qualification required to become a speech therapist.
Lack of awareness and finding the right team are the significant challenge faced by a professional as well as the layman in speech therapy, she said along with sharing the areas of problems faced by a speech therapist.
“Reduce the screen time, so that it will encourage the child in sharing their thoughts in the form of communication,” the doctor opined.
As advise to the audience she stated, Speech therapists, are available at any point in time and so approach the therapist to find solutions for the communication problem in your child.”
