The archdiocese of Tellicherry is in mourning following the tragic death of Father Mathew (Shince) Kudilil on August 15. The 29-year-old priest was electrocuted while dismantling a flagpole after the Independence Day celebrations at Infant Jesus Church in Mulleria, Kasaragod district.

Father Kudilil was removing the pole when it inadvertently touched a high-tension electrical line. He was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital in Mulleria. The archdiocese has sent a team to Mulleria in response to the incident.

According to a statement from archdiocesan chancellor Father Mathew Muttathukunnel, Father Kudilil’s body will be transported to his residence in Edoor on August 17 at 7 am. It will then be moved to St Mary’s Forane Church in Edoor for public homage before the funeral service begins at 10 am.

Father Kudilil, who was ordained three years ago, had previously served at St George Church, Chempanthotty, and St Sebastian’s Church Nellickampoil, both in Kannur district. His energetic presence and service were cherished by the community.

The archdiocese is deeply saddened by his loss and remembers Father Kudilil for his dedication and service.
