Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s house in Shiggaon has been converted into an Oxygenated Covid Recovery Centre. This is the first time that a minister’s residence has been converted as an Oxygenated Covid Recovery Centre. Shiggaon is a small town in North Karnataka and Bommai represents the Shiggaon constituency in the state assembly. Bommai handed over his residence, which could treat 50 Covid – 19 patients with oxygen, to alleviate bed shortages in hospitals in his own constituency.
As many as 50 beds have been set up at the premises of his house with needy medical facilities. 50 oxygen concentrators are installed near each bed to provide oxygen to ailing Covid-19 patients.
Speaking to News Karnataka, Dr P H Hanumantappa, Chief Medical Officer, General Hospital, Shiggaon said, “The Oxygenated Covid Recovery Centre will reduce the burden in the ShiggaonnTaluk Hospital. Those who are recovering in the hospital will be shifted to the Covid Centre at the minister’s house premises and treated there. They will be discharged after complete recovery.”
Minister regularly visits the Covid Care Centre and reviews the status and interacts with Covid patients, he added. “As of now, 130 patients have been admitted to the centre, and 80 patients were discharged after complete recovery. Medicine, bread, and meals are being given free by the Gangamma Bommai Trust. Health staff have been deployed to take care of their hygiene and treatment. The doctors visit the centre and treat patients. And, the nurses are serving round the clock. All these expenses are borne by the minister himself and all the services are absolutely free for the patients,” he informed.
