In a significant military move on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces initiated Operation Sindoor, launching precise strikes on terror hubs located within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). A government statement emphasized that no Pakistani military targets were attacked during the operation. The targeted camps are reportedly associated with outlawed terror outfits, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, according to investigation agencies.

The Ministry of Defence stated on X that the operation involved “calibrated strikes” on nine terror-related sites, aimed at disrupting the infrastructure used for cross-border militancy. These actions come amid heightened concerns over repeated infiltration attempts and terror planning from across the border.

In retaliation, the Pakistani military launched intense mortar attacks on forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC). Shelling was reported in multiple villages including Krishna Ghati, Mankote, and Shahpur in Poonch, as well as Laam, Manjakote, and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri district, causing panic among residents.

Amid rising security alerts, India has suspended commercial air traffic in its northern region. Preparations are underway to reinforce civilian defence protocols. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will review emergency readiness, which includes testing air-raid sirens, civilian safety training, and clearing bunkers and trenches for public use.

The United Nations Security Council held a closed-door meeting to discuss the growing India-Pakistan tension. While no formal statement was issued, Pakistani officials claimed the talks aligned with their diplomatic goals.
