Friends Dubai all set to host NRI’s Karnataka Premier League on March 27

Dubai: It’s a good news for cricket lovers of UAE. For the first time, an international standard cricket tournament  with a huge sum of cash prizes at stake, teams and players of Karnataka origin from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE will vie for the for the coveted Karnataka Premier League Dubai for NRI’s to be held on 27th March 2015 at the Hamriya Grass Grounds, Ajman, UAE. Cricket lovers will get to feast on high quality cricket as the 12 leading teams divided into 4 pools will play through the day with league and knockout rounds. The Tournament will be adjudged by ICC accredited referees.

The tournament is the brain child of Mr. Sadhiq Kaup, a staunch supporter of cricket. He heads Friends Dubai, a group of cricket enthusiasts as its President.  He is ably supported by Mr. Abdul Gafoor Farangipete and Mr. Sadaf, Vice President and Secretary respectively. A team of experienced players and organizers, Mr. Avil Pinto, Mr. Praveen Acharya, Mr. Cleevan Mendonca, Mr. Althaf Ganjimutta, Mr. Ijaz Honnala, Mr. Tanver Kazi and Mr. Haneef are on the  organizing committee. They are working hard as the support team to organize this grand event. The organizers have left no stone unturned to bring in perfection to every aspect of the tournament for the sake of the cricket  fans of the middle east.

The event, when it was originally planned was on a small scale and was a seen as a small beginning that would grow into a mighty oak. However the event, soon got a big push with  full support extended by Sheikh Mohammed Sharif, Managing Director of Kushi Medical Centre, Mangalore a unit of  Kushi Group of Companies, UAE who willingly agreed to be the main sponsor for the tournament.

Recently a Trophy unveiling ceremony was hosted at Majilesh, Qiasess, Dubai where the Trophies were unveiled by Sheikh Mohammed Sharif. The programme was witnessed by Haji Abdul Rahaman, Chairman, Oxford Marine Dubai, which is the Gold Sponsor for the tournament, the sponsors, captains and representatives of all the teams.

In his welcome message at the unveiling ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed Sharif applauded the efforts taken by Friends Dubai,the  organizers for putting up an event of this manner and asked all the teams to play with sportsmanship spirit to promote harmony in this region.

During the event, individual team jerseys were handed over to the team captains , a video presentation of the tournament was released, pools were drawn and the rules of the tournament were explained to the teams.

The participating teams: Almuzain Qatar, Kushi Cricketers, Chilly Willy, Group Cricket Club Petromann, Bluesea Samurais, Cricket Eleven Warriors, Shanan Star, Evergreen Sports, Al Falah Cricket Club Saudi Arabia, Surathkal Stars, Oxford Marine, Amaco Saudi Arabia.

Newskarnataka being one of the media partners of the tournament will provide live updates of the tournament as it progresses.

Mr. Sadhiq Kaup, the President of Friends Dubai when quizzed about the preparations of the tournament, said: “We have done our best to make this a historical one in the books of UAE. A good organizing team is planning every possible way to bring out this event professionally. He also revealed that former Indian Cricket Captain and former Member of Parliament Mr. Mohammed Azaruddin will be the Chief Guest for the tournament. He thanked Sheikh Mohammed Sharif, Managing Director of Kushi Medical Centre, Mangalore a unit of Kushi Group of Companies, UAE , Haji Abdul Rahaman, Chairman, Oxfard Marine Dubai and all the sponsors  for their generous support.  He requested all the cricket fans in UAE to support and witness the tournament which will have free entry for spectators.”


The highlights of the event:

–          Top 12 teams across UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar will participate

–          Running commentary by UAE’s top commentators will entertain the crowd

–          A special 5 feet winners and 4.5 feet runners up trophies weighing 30 kgs along with other trophies specially flown in from India will be the centre of attraction

–          Cash prizes of Rs. 5 Lakh to be awarded to the winning and runners up teams

–          Indian Cricket Captain and now Member of Parliament Mr. Mohammed Azaruddin will be the Chief Guest for the tournament
