Dubai: Heavy rainfall lashed across United Arab Emirates on Wednesday resulting in closure of Abu Dhabi’s international airport. Schools also have been closed.
Abu Dhabi International Airport, home to Etihad airline, announced the flight suspension today on Twitter due to severe weather conditions. Dubai International Airport, home to the long-haul carrier Emirates, saw some flights delayed.
The United Arab Emirates’ National Center for Meteorology and Seismology had warned that heavy rains were possible today.
The Garden City faced the wrath of the weather as heavy rainfall lashed most of Al Ain and Abu Dhabi early Wednesday morning, resulting in waterlogging across several key roads, even as authorities issued flashflood warnings.
Abu Dhabi city and the surrounding Khalifa and Masdar City also experienced hailstorms as a low pressure system swept across the region, bringing rain to most of UAE, along with neighbouring Oman and Qatar.
Residents are advised to not venture into areas prone to flash floods especially in areas near wadis and mountains. Motorists are also being cautioned to exercise caution on slippery roads and when puddles form.
