Dubai: Super hit Konkani Movie “Sophiya…A Dream Girl” produced by Janet Noronha Productions and directed by Bollywood & Bhojpuri Ace Director Harry Fernandes,starring multi-lingual actress Esther Noronha, Elton Mascarenhas and Sheton Crasta is all set to hit UAE theaters on January 19, 26 and February 2 with shows across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Musaffah, Sharjah & Al Ain.
Well-known philanthropist Ronald Colaco will be travelling all the way from India to grace the function as chief guest along with Priest of St. Mary’s Church Dubai, Rev. Fr. Robert Lasrado and other guests. Recipient of various national and international awards, Ronald Colaco is also a Rajyotsava awardee from the Government of Karnataka for his various noble deeds. The premier show and inauguration will be at 1 PM on Friday, January 19 and Lead Actress Esther Noronha will be there to greet Konkani movie lovers along with producer Janet Noronha. Most of the tickets are sold out and very few tickets are available on first come first basis.
Another full show of 4 PM in Galleria on January 19 is being taken over by another great philanthropist Martin Aranha of Globelink West Star Shipping Co of UAE. Martin Aranha has in the past, supported various Konkani Movies. He is a simple and humble personality, who supports various needy individuals and institutions in emergency through charity in a discreet manner.
Abu Dhabi show will be held on January 26 at 4 PM in WTC, NOVO Cinemas and Cynthia D’Cunha, an active Konkani theatre lover has voluntarily taken the responsibility along with Valerian Almeida of KCO Abu Dhabi and has distributed almost major portion of the tickets. Very few tickets are left, which they are sure will be distributed by the end of this week.
There is a great demand to have one show in Mussafah and one show in Al Ain as the Konkani Church group leaders in these areas are approaching the distributors continuously. Dates of these shows will be finalised once theatres are available.
Sharjah Show is on February 2 at 4 PM in NOVO Cinemas, Mega Mall. Cynthia Goveas, another strong Konkani supporter in Sharjah has voluntarily taken over the responsibility to successfully conclude a houseful show there.
More shows are in the pipeline and will be arranged through the distributors “Sandhya Creations.” Any Konkani association or persons supporting the mother tongue; willing to do a special screening, can contact either the producer or the distributor.
Soon, Sophiya will be moving on to Muscat, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar with various shows as the producer has been flooded with demands after the hype this classic Konkani movie has received till date.
First ever lady producer of Konkani movies, Janet Noronha is very happy to see the demand for her maiden movie in her mother tongue and is willing to do more to the community she belongs to with the success of Sophiya.

Collections from Israel screening of “Sophia” were handed over to a humanity trust in Udupi adding their contribution to the society.
“Sophiya” remains unique out of the many films released this year. The film being a family entertainer is being watched by women and children alike. The story received much praise from all quarters wherever it was released. A good message is delivered through the film to the audience with a dash of comedy.
With lyrics by Ancy D’Souza Paladka and Harry Fernandes, Sophiya has soulful music composed by Gunwant Sen and sung by Ester Noronha, Anthony Tauro, Gunwant Sen, Dashiel Concessao and Roop Shaa. Beautiful dances were ably choreographed by Dilip Mestry. Picturesque locations were captured by Director of Photography, Shafeeq Shaikh which was crisply edited by Abhishek Maskar. Action Director Sunil Rodigues has done justice to action scenes. With art direction by Wilfred Pinto, the film has classic designer Suraj Ravi and assistant director, Roystan Balkunje in the team. The entire movie was capably handled by production manager Satish Brahmavar.
