Dubai: Manipal University, Dubai Campus (MUDC) in collaboration with the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi launched a 100% higher education scholarship scheme for eligible girl students in the U.A.E at its ninth convocation ceremony held at Ritz-Carlton Hotel, DIFC, Dubai on October 31, 2015.
An annual celebration of faculty and student academic achievement, and civic engagement, this year’s convocation conferred academic degrees to around 400 students from various programs and disciplines including Business, Engineering, Interior Design, Life Sciences, and Media. The ceremony also honoured recipients of special awards for academic excellence and outstanding contribution.
The Convocation address delivered by the Chief Guest, Manish Sabharwal, Chairman and Co-founder of Teamlease Services, commended the University’s scholarship initiative stating that it is the need of the hour. Sabharwal has placed more than half a million people in temporary and permanent jobs, since the inception of Teamlease Services in 2002. He is also the Member of the Prime Minister’s Council of Skill Development, India and columnist for Financial Express, Economic Times and Mint.
Vaitheeswaran S., MD and CEO, Manipal Global Education (MaGE) announced the launch of ‘100% Higher Education Scholarship for Eligible Girl Students’ in the presence of the Guest of Honour, H.E, T. P. Seetharam, Ambassador of India to the U.A.E, Vasanti Pai, and Ravi Panchanadan, CEO (Middle East and Africa), MaGE.
The scholarship scheme aims to support meritorious girl students facing financial constraints and wishing to seek admission in undergraduate degree programs at MUDC.
The ceremony was also addressed by Dr. S.V. Kota Reddy, Academic President of Manipal University, Dubai, Dr. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, India and Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education.
The ceremony held at Samaya Ballroom in Ritz-Carlton Hotel had around 1500 attendees including alumni, industry partners and esteemed guests. The event was streamed live and is archived online for future viewing.
