Dubai: The 39th ISC Open badminton tournament, sponsored by Apex and Yonex picked up steam in the ISC badminton courts and is progressing well as per the original schedule. The girls and boys events have reached the semifinal and final stages. The semifinals will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 12 13 respectively and the finals will be spread over Thursday and Friday, January 14 and 15 respectively.
As expected, the young and talented Sara Siraj reached the finals of all the three events which she took part in. In all the semi final matches she played, she successfully tamed all her opponents, except in the girls’ singles event. In the Girls Singles – Under 15 Yrs, she crushed Nida Najeeb – 21-5, 21-3. In Ladies singles, she was extended to three sets by another young talent from Dubai, Tanisha Castro, in which she won 21-15, 20-22, 21-18. In the ladies doubles, she partnered a new comer Emje May Joe and won easily against Jean Lepaopao & Anna Rose from Abu Dhabi – 21-12, 21-12.
In another exciting event, Girls under 12, Sreeyuktha Sreejith edged past Rinitha Rajith in three well fought sets 20-22, 21-18, 21-18.
In the girls doubles under 15 category, Nida Najeeb combined with the local and upcoming talent Evana Bose beat the sisters Rishitha Rajith & Rinitha Rajith and reached the finals and will meet Arthi Varshini & Srinidhi Jayakumar from Abu Dhabi.
In the Boys Singles under 15 categories, Vasanth Kumar Rajendran reached the semifinals and will play against Shehil Mohammed who defeated Fazim Abdu Anzar 21-13, 21-14.
In Men Singles, seeded players Imam Adi Kusuma and Shinoy Sasindhran had easy victories in their first round matches against C. R. Antony and Abdullah Sherif Madathil respectively.
