Dubai: Satish Shetty, a native of Kundapur received the prestigious Emirates National Oil Corporation (ENOC) award for the year 2017 at a glittering ceremony held at Hyatt Regency Creek heights in Dubai on October 17. His Excellence Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group Chief Executive Officer, ENOC; Dr. Waddah Ghanem Al Hashmi, Executive Director, EHSSQ & Corporate Affairs and Chairman, ENOC E&RM Technical Committee, jointly presented the coveted award to the energy saving expert.

Satish Shetty, born in a Bunt family in Kundapur, is the son of Gopalkrishna Shetty and Kandavara Devaki Shetty. Resident of “Kandvara Kelamane” in Balkur, Satish graduated in mechanical engineering from Davanagere in Karnataka and later completed his post graduation from Heriot Watt University based in Edinburgh,UK.

Satish Shetty is an expert in Heat, Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC) field industrial establishments in Oil and Natural Gas, Commercial complexes and skyscrapers of up to 40 storeys.

Satish has over 15 years of experience in Feed and Engineering, tender processing (technical evaluation, project management, project audit and several other key fields).

Satish joined a semi government firm in Abu Dhabi before joining ENOC in 2011 and gained experience in energy saving and management. The company involved in the field of cooling air conditioners assigned the job of saving energy costs in engineering field. This helped to ignite the passion in Satish and strive in the field most dear to him to make a difference. Satish joined ENOC as senior project management engineer and worked in the mechanical design of industrial complexes, oil and natural gas conservation systems and engineering development fields.

Considering his skills, ENOC nominated him to Energy and Resource Management (ERM) group which opened a world of opportunities for Satish to employ his skills to optimum usage. In 2013, Satish introduced Variable Refrigerator Flow (VRF) systems and worked towards their implementation. These systems are currently in use at ENOC managed fuel stations and other industrial facilities. Going a step further, Satish played a pivotal role in installing stand alone chillers and freezers at convenience stores in UAE. Satish’s expertise is also being used in water dependent steam based vehicle testing bays at Tasjeel.

Satish joined Heriott Watt university (Dubai campus ) to earn an MSc degree which he duly earned in 2016. During the course of his study, Satish found the energy used at convenience stores in UAE was higher by 25-30 percent compared to global standards. Satish felt the need of minimising but did realise that lot of energy goes in cooling systems in UAE considering the atmospheric conditions. The study adopting bench marking index helped Satish to find ways towards energy saving. He realised that investment costs can be recovered within a span of 3-6 years. The study set a new benchmark of 965 kWh/m2 for conveniences stores in UAE, which could result in saving 300 kWh/m2 annually. The new benchmark helped save energy management costs as it led to design changes towards energy saving, where comparatives were drawn between systems.

Satish finds ENOC as a company specialised in the field of exploration that is positive to changes to match with the times and standards and quick to adapt to changes taking place in global engineering sector. Satish with his 19 years of vast experience aims to minimise the consumption of energy by 15 percent and 30 percent in new and old retail sectors respectively. With guaranteed returns in investments within a span of 3-6 years, Satish is toiling to realise his dream and fulfil ENOC vision.

Satish at ENOC is definitely the Best Energy Technical Committee Member, Most Engaged, Transparent and Personally Committed Executive, as the award citation reads.
