Abu Dhabi: The second International Day of Yoga was organised by the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with Umm Al Emarat Park authorities on Tuesday evening which was attended by more than 3500 Abu Dhabi residents belonging to different nationalities.
Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth, and Social Development and Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of State for Tolerance, attended the event.
Shaikha Lubna lit the traditional Indian lamp as a part of the formal ceremony. She appreciated the initiative of the embassy and in her speech said “Recognizing its universal appeal, the United Arab Emirates is proud to celebrate, with nations around the world, this very special occasion and hail the laudable and praiseworthy efforts of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his call, which led to proclaim 21 June as the International Day of Yoga, an initiative that has gained the support of 177 nations worldwide”
T. P. Seetharam, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE and Neeta Bhushan, Deputy Chief of the Mission at the Indian Embassy welcomed Sheikh Nahyan and Shaikha Lubna to the stage. Apart from Indian residents, including business and community leaders, people of many other nationalities also rolled out their yoga mats and practiced Yoga postures at Umm Al Emarat Park. The prominent people who were present were NMC Healthcare CEO and Vice Chairman Dr. B. R. Shetty, President of UAE Exchange Global Sudhir Kumar Shetty, SFC Group Chairman K. Muraleedharana and representatives from Lulu International Group.
During the 2 hour programme, different Yoga related activities were demonstrated which included Yoga on chair by Indumathi and team, Yoga dance by Global International School students, simplified yoga postures by Sky Yoga Club, Yoga dance by Ryan Private School students, Session on Yoga therapy by Burjeel Hospital team, Yoga Acrobatics by Private International Indian School Students, Peacock dance by Mayur Private School students, basics of Yoga session by Shankari Dutta and Ranjith followed by Common Yoga protocol demonstrated by Saket Kakkar of Art of Living, Abu Dhabi.
