Two Dubai teams jointly lift Eagles Champions Trophy-2017

Abu Dhabi: Two Dubai based teams, MCBC and GMC jointly lifted the Eagles Champions Trophy-2017, organised by Eagles Cricketers, Abu Dhabi.

The tournament was held at the Academic Cricket Grounds near Sh. Zayed International Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Friday, 3rd February, 2017. A total number of nine teams belonging to the Mangalorean Konkani Community participated in the tournament despite extreme weather conditions. MCBC – Dubai and GMC – Dubai reached the finals winning their knockout matches.

GMC – Dubai had defeated D.M.C – Dubai and MCBC – Dubai had defeated Abu Dhabi Mangaloreans in their respective semi-final matches to make it to the finals. The tournament matches began at 8.45 am after reciting prayer lead by Mr. Sharan D’souza and senior member of Eagles Abu Dhabi Rahim. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, all the teams participated and played the matches in good spirit.

However the final match could not be completed due to bad weather and both the competing teams agreed to share the trophy and the total prize money of Dhs. 5,002. It was a fun-filled day where all the players along with family & friends witnessed the keenly contested matches. The atmosphere was kept busy with lively running commentary in English, Konkani, Kannada and Tulu by Sharan, Prakash , Jobis, Lynish & Mervin with Sounds & DJ Music by Rony M.

Later in the day, the Champions Trophies was presented to the both winning teams by Eagles members Pratheep Shetty, Jobis, Prakash, Wilson, Lawrence, Richard, Calvin, President Rohan Lasrado, Praveen, Brain, Andrew and Sharan D’souza. Following individual trophies were also presented:
Best Batsman – Melroy – GMC Dubai
Best Bowler – Melwyn Coutinho – MCBC Dubai
Man of the Series – Nithin – MCB Dubai

The tournament was sponsored mainly by Mr. Walter Almeida and family-Regal Furnishings and Storage Systems and supported by Mr. Sharan – Al Asabah Al Mahrat Gen Maint Co., Mr. Leo Rodrigues & Family of Al Mazroui & Clevi Automobile Serv. EAGLES CRICKETERS are an enthusiastic group of cricketers in Abu Dhabi. It is a non-profit group which aims at playing cricket during the week-ends to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. 4. Financial support for house construction of a family who lost their only son in a road accident during November 2014.
5. Financial support towards medical treatment of a young boy who suffered fatal road accident this year.

This year too we supported the following causes
1. Financial support worth IRS. 50,000 for the heart treatment of a 1-year baby girl in Chennai
2. Financial support worth IRS. 75,000 to the family of a person who died in a tragic accident.
3. Financial support worth IRS 1,10,000 for the treatment of an young boy who is under coma in a hospital
