On Wednesday, DV Sadananda Gowda, the former chief minister of Karnataka, declared his retirement from Hassan electoral politics. In the Lok Sabha, he presently represents Bengaluru North.

Speaking to reporters in Hassan, Sadananda Gowda said that he has got maximum benefits from the party and would not aspire for more.

“I’ve made the decision to give up on electoral politics. The party has given me everything over the course of my thirty years in politics. I worked for the Narendra Modi government for ten years as a cabinet minister, twenty years as an MP, one year as chief minister, and more than four years as president of the state party. Gowda remarked, “I would be labeled a selfish person if I had higher goals.

In 2021, during a reorganization of Union Ministers, he resigned from his position as a Union Minister per PM Narendra Modi’s orders.

The BJP leader made the comments after conducting a crop loss survey in Hassan district. Various teams of the BJP are conducting a survey due to the drought situation in the state. The BJP leaders have decided to submit the report to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking on the alliance with the JDS for the Lok Sabha elections, Gowda said that the central leaders have taken a decision.

“When it comes to NDA, our central leaders have taken a decision. But, we have requested them to give us proper guidelines to implement it in the state as it will be difficult for our workers to suddenly contest an election along with a party against whom they fought all these years,” Gowda said.

Reacting to the delay in the appointment of state leaders and Opposition leader, Gowda accepted that it had caused them embarrassment.

“There is a delay and we accept it which has caused embarrassment. Our leaders have collected individual opinions on the matter and once the five state elections are over, we expect an announcement to be made,” he added.
