Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sparked controversy over their visit to evacuation centers in Los Angeles, where they were photographed while interacting with fire victims, leading to accusations of using the crisis for publicity. Despite claiming to be doing voluntary work anonymously, their presence with a camera crew raised questions about their intentions.
However, a new story shared by Pasadena mayor Victor Gordo sheds light on Prince Harry’s interaction with a fire victim, which some have used to defend the couple’s actions. Gordo recounted how a fire victim, unaware of Harry’s identity, asked for a donut. Harry, wearing a cap and mask, left and returned 10 minutes later with the requested donut. The man, still unaware that he was speaking to Prince Harry, jokingly said, “If you ever run for anything, I’ll vote for you.”
This anecdote has been circulated to emphasize that Harry was acting in good faith and was not seeking attention. However, many on social media remain divided, with critics accusing Harry and Meghan of turning the tragedy into an opportunity for self-promotion. Detractors also pointed out that while the couple received a “quasi-royal” tour, evacuees were still barred from returning to their homes.
Supporters of Meghan, on the other hand, argue that the couple’s actions were positive, contrasting them with the often-criticized treatment of the Duchess by the media. They assert that other celebrities are praised for similar acts of kindness, while Meghan is unfairly scrutinized for every move she makes.
