As the finishing touches are being made to the new Dakshina Kannada DC office complex in Mangaluru, the main access route—Pumpwell (Mahaveer Circle) to Padil—is also close to being fully upgraded into a four-lane road. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to inaugurate the new administrative hub on May 16.

Arun Prabha KS, General Manager (Technical) of Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), confirmed that the full 2.8 km stretch should be completed by the end of May. Initially estimated at ₹24 crore in February 2022, the project cost has now soared to nearly ₹36 crore due to added infrastructure work such as retaining walls, underground drainage, and coordination with LPG and water pipeline installations under the Jalasiri 24×7 scheme.

The stretch, formerly part of NH 75 before its denotification by NHAI, had long been a bottleneck, frustrating commuters due to sluggish progress. Its completion is now seen as critical, with the road serving as a major entryway to the city and the new DC office.

District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao had inspected the site earlier in April and reaffirmed Siddaramaiah’s role in the upcoming inauguration. Meanwhile, MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has formally requested that the newly developed road be named Kankanady Garadi Road, paying homage to the Kankanady Brahma Baidarkala Garodi Kshetra situated along the route. The naming proposal is now with the standing committee on town planning.
