In Raichur, a troubling incident occurred at Morarji Desai Residential School on Chandrabanda Road when fifty children fell ill after consuming food contaminated with a lizard. The incident took place on Wednesday morning during breakfast, where the children were served pulao. Shortly after eating, many of the children began vomiting.

Upon inspection, severed parts of a lizard were discovered in the vessel used to prepare the dish. The school staff promptly transported the affected children to BRIMS Hospital for treatment. Most of the children experienced symptoms of dizziness and nausea, which were managed by the hospital staff. Some of the more seriously affected students received saline treatment.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Surendra Babu, along with senior school staff members, visited the hospital to check on the children’s condition. Fortunately, by the evening, the children were reported to be recovering well. The DHO criticized the cooks at the school for their negligence and lack of proper hygiene practices.

Aziz Jagirdar, convener of the Karnataka chapter of the All India Revolutionary Students’ Association, urged for regular surprise inspections by deputy commissioners and DHOs to prevent such incidents and ensure that school staff maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
