A tragic incident unfolded near Ankushadoddi village in Maski taluk on Tuesday evening, as a 32-year-old shepherd lost his life after being struck by lightning.
The victim, identified as Ramanna Nayak, was a resident of the same village. He had taken his flock out for grazing earlier in the day. While making his way back home, the weather suddenly turned, and a thunderstorm swept through the area.
During the heavy rainfall, a lightning bolt struck Ramanna, leaving him critically injured. Villagers immediately rushed him to the hospital in Maski. However, he is believed to have succumbed to his injuries before reaching medical care.
Following the incident, both revenue and police personnel arrived at the scene and conducted a preliminary inspection. The sudden loss of life has left the local community in shock.
This unfortunate event highlights the growing dangers posed by unpredictable weather, especially during the pre-monsoon season, and the need for increased awareness and caution among those working in open fields.
