Rebranding Mangaluru as India’s Silicon Beach: MP Brijesh Chowta’s IT Vision
Dakshina Kannada MP, Brijesh Chowta, urged efforts to reshape Mangaluru’s image as a thriving IT hub at the “Mangalore IT Wave” event, calling for a shift from outdated perceptions that hinder growth. Chowta emphasized Mangaluru’s $500 million IT sector contributions but acknowledged that misconceptions around safety and limited nightlife have stalled investment. He stressed the need to market the city’s natural beauty and facilities to attract more IT ventures.
Chowta unveiled two major initiatives: “Back to Uru,” which aims to re-engage IT professionals originally from Mangaluru, and “Be Your Own Boss,” supporting local entrepreneurs to grow into significant IT players. He believes that with proper support, Mangaluru could foster its own tech giants, citing companies like Novigo as examples.
Highlighting the city’s infrastructure and proximity to Bengaluru, Chowta announced updates on key connectivity projects, including the BC Road-Addahole highway and Shiradi Ghat improvements. He also plans to meet with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to push for Mangaluru’s recognition as a major IT destination.
With notable industry leaders, including Infosys and Novigo Solutions, participating in the discussions, the event underlined the need for a unified approach from all stakeholders to elevate Mangaluru’s IT potential.
