The Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru witnessed an unprecedented 210,000 visitors for its annual Independence Day flower show on August 8, 2024. The event, which is dedicated to Dr. B R Ambedkar, generated a notable ₹92.5 lakh in revenue for the Karnataka Horticulture Department, The Hindu reported.

This year’s show, themed around Dr. Ambedkar—celebrated as a “Universal Scholar,” “Architect of the Constitution,” and “Bharat Ratna”—includes thematic displays and video screenings highlighting his life and contributions. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the show, which will run until August 19.

Last year’s event, which honored Kengal Hanumanthaiah, attracted around 245,000 attendees but earned ₹81.5 lakh, partially due to free entry during peak times to manage crowds.

The 216th edition of the show is also notable for its waste-free initiative, with efforts to minimize litter and plastic waste through partnerships with various organizations.
