The police have issued a warning after receiving a growing number of reports about scam calls. In a recent statement released on Thursday, officials cautioned the public about fraudulent phone calls where scammers impersonate traffic officers to deceive victims and steal personal data or money.

The advisory specifically highlights various types of scams, including fake claims about unpaid traffic fines, bogus vehicle insurance or registration services, and false accusations of involvement in hit-and-run incidents. Additionally, scammers may send links purporting to contain video footage of traffic violations or request recipients to press a button to confirm identity or authorize payments.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) urged citizens to be cautious and verify the legitimacy of any calls or messages. The police recommend contacting the department directly via their official website (btp.gov.in) or calling the helplines 080-22868550 and 080-22868444 to confirm any claims.

To protect themselves, the advisory also stressed the importance of verifying the identity of officers before disclosing any information. Citizens should only use official platforms for paying fines or accessing traffic-related services. Additionally, keeping software and systems updated is essential for security.

Anyone who receives suspicious calls or messages is advised to report them to the police at acpplanningoffice@gmail.com.

Stay vigilant and safeguard your information.
