Bengaluru: A four-year-old girl miraculously survived after a car ran over her outside her home in Nelamangala’s Weavers’ Colony on 28 November. The shocking incident, captured on CCTV, has raised serious concerns over reckless driving in residential areas.
Child run over outside home
According to police, the child — daughter of Shashi and Siddalingaiah — had stepped out of her house gate around 5 pm and was standing near the entrance when a car turned into the narrow lane. CCTV footage shows the girl walking into view just moments before the vehicle continues straight and runs over her.
The driver appeared unaware of the child’s presence in front of the car. Without stopping to check what had happened, he drove away from the spot, leaving the child injured on the road.
Her parents and relatives rushed out upon hearing her screams. She suffered serious facial injuries and wounds on other parts of her body. Family members immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment and is said to be recovering.
Driver on the run
The Nelamangala Traffic Police have registered a case and initiated efforts to trace the driver. Officers said that the vehicle’s registration number is being verified, and further analysis of CCTV footage from nearby roads is underway to identify the accused.
Police officials noted that the driver’s failure to stop after the accident constitutes a serious offence, and they expect to make an arrest once the vehicle and owner are traced. Further investigation is in progress.
Conclusion
The incident has renewed discussion around children’s safety in residential lanes and the need for stricter enforcement of speed and vigilance norms. As the child continues her recovery, the police have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution in neighbourhood zones, where young children are often at risk.
