In a significant breakthrough, Udupi police have nabbed notorious serial burglar Abu Bakar—also known as Abdul Khader and Itte Barpe Abubakkar—in connection with a house theft in Shirva village.

The crime took place on June 26 at the residence of Pavithra Poojarthi near Mattaru Road, while she and her son were asleep. The accused reportedly pried open the window using a hooked rod to gain entry, escaping with 137 grams of gold jewellery, valued at ₹12.75 lakh.

A case was filed at the Shirva Police Station, prompting a focused investigation. Under the direction of SP Hariram Shankar, leadership of Additional SP Sudhakar S Naik and Karkala ASP Dr Harsha Priyamvada, and supervision of Kapu Circle Inspector Jayashree S Mane, a multi-station police team launched a coordinated manhunt.

Abu Bakar was successfully arrested, and police recovered 66.76 grams of stolen gold along with the Jupiter scooter used in the crime—valued at ₹7 lakh.

Authorities confirmed Bakar’s involvement in over 30 burglary cases across multiple Karnataka districts. Officials believe this arrest has prevented future crimes, and they are now probing his links to unsolved cases in nearby areas.

The operation involved personnel from Shirva, Padubidri, and Kapu stations, along with circle office staff and support teams. Further inquiry is ongoing to retrieve the remaining loot and compile a comprehensive chargesheet.
