Mangaluru: The state government has made Aadhaar-based biometric verification mandatory for all beneficiaries receiving monthly financial assistance under the welfare scheme. The move is part of a statewide exercise aimed at ensuring that benefits reach only eligible recipients and preventing misuse of government funds.
Officials said the verification drive has already led to the removal of approximately 4.3 lakh ineligible beneficiaries from the scheme. The exercise was undertaken to identify duplicate, fraudulent and otherwise ineligible beneficiaries receiving financial assistance.
Verification mandatory within one month
Beneficiaries have been directed to complete Aadhaar-based biometric authentication within one month to continue receiving their monthly financial assistance. The government has warned that those who fail to complete the verification process within the stipulated deadline may face suspension of benefits until their details are verified.
The initiative is intended to enhance transparency and strengthen monitoring mechanisms within the welfare scheme while ensuring that genuine beneficiaries continue to receive support without interruption.
Authentication process at designated centres
The verification process can be completed at designated service centres across the state. Beneficiaries will be required to undergo biometric authentication using their Aadhaar details.
A nominal fee of ₹5 has been fixed for completing the verification process. Authorities have advised beneficiaries to visit the centres well before the deadline to avoid last-minute rush and delays.
Documents required for verification
Beneficiaries must carry their Aadhaar card and scheme identity card while visiting the verification centres. These documents will be used to validate beneficiary details and complete biometric authentication.
Officials have also clarified that certain beneficiaries may be required to furnish additional information as specified in their caste certificate. Those falling under such categories have been advised to ensure that all relevant details and supporting documents are available during the verification process.
Drive aimed at preventing misuse
The government said the large-scale verification exercise is part of broader efforts to improve accountability and prevent misuse of welfare schemes. By linking benefits to Aadhaar-based biometric authentication, authorities aim to eliminate irregularities and ensure that public funds are utilised effectively.
Officials have urged all beneficiaries to cooperate with the verification process and complete the authentication within the prescribed timeframe to avoid disruption in receiving financial assistance.
The verification drive is expected to help create a more transparent and efficient welfare delivery system while ensuring that assistance reaches only those genuinely entitled to receive it.
