Mangaluru: The Kankanady Town police apprehended two young men near Kedekar Cross in Mangaluru for illegally possessing a firearm and live ammunition.
As per police sources, the individuals taken into custody have been identified as Tausif Ahmad and Abdul Khader. Sub-inspector Shiv Kumar K from Kankanady Town stated in his report that the incident occurred around 3:30 pm on Monday. While on routine patrol from Jeppinamogaru Junction towards Kallapu, the police team noticed the duo loitering near Kedekar Cross. Upon seeing the patrol vehicle, both attempted to flee toward the Netravathi riverbank.
They were soon chased down and caught with the help of police personnel. During initial questioning, it was discovered that Tausif was in unlawful possession of a pistol along with six live bullets.
Further probe revealed that the weapon originally belonged to Ajiz, a now-deceased resident of Kuthar. Abdul Khader had reportedly traveled with Ajiz to Agra, where Ajiz had obtained the firearm from an unidentified source. He later showed it to Abdul Khader.
In March 2025, while returning by train to Mangaluru, Ajiz suffered a fatal heart attack near Kumta in Uttara Kannada district. After his death, the pistol was collected by Hameed, a relative, who later handed it over to Tausif, a resident of Bolar.
On July 31, Tausif was instructed to return the weapon to Hameed at Kedekar Cross. However, both were intercepted by patrolling officers before the handover could happen.
