Government schools across Shivamogga district reopened on Friday, May 30, with a heartwarming start as students were greeted with flowers by headmasters and teachers. Following the Education Department’s directive, the reopening day was transformed into a festive celebration.

Schools were adorned with floral decorations, vibrant rangolis, and colorful welcome signs. Teachers and School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) members worked together to clean the premises and decorate gates, walls, and entrances. The warm welcome was accompanied by distribution of new uniforms and textbooks. In several schools, children were treated to sweets as a token of affection.

SR Manjunatha, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, shared with The New Indian Express that the department encouraged government schools—both urban and rural—to create a festive and inviting atmosphere. Classrooms, staff rooms, kitchens, and other areas were tidied and embellished. Sweets were also added to the midday meals to mark the occasion. Around 90% of textbooks and uniforms have already been delivered and will reach students shortly.

In a touching gesture, A Baburatna, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, visited Puradal’s higher primary school and handed out sweets and flowers. At Karnataka Public School in Anavatti and the Moodi School in Soraba, Soraba Tahsildar Manjula Hegdal and BEO Pushpa led the welcoming ceremonies.

With over 2,100 government and 400 aided schools, Shivamogga serves 1.10 lakh students in government schools out of 2.58 lakh total.
