A feature tracker revealed that WhatsApp for Android is testing a new design for the status updates page. The contemporary interface is anticipated to be made available to users of iOS and Android smartphones by the instant messaging platform in the near future. It’s also possible that users can view status updates without actually opening them. This news coincides with the discovery that WhatsApp is also investigating a solution for the emoji keyboard crash that has allegedly affected some Android users.

WhatsApp Tests a New Status Update UI

The WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.20 is reportedly rolling out the platform’s new status update layout, according to feature tracker WABetaInfo. This change was apparently available to a select group of beta testers on a previous version, but with the most recent release, it is now available to a wider user base.

A larger thumbnail for status updates has replaced the previous smaller circular window, according to a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo. Users might be able to view the status update from this thumbnail without opening them, it is speculated. The feature tracker states that it is still pinned at the top of the screen beneath the search bar, indicating that its location has not changed.

A new design for the WhatsApp channel recommendation panel is another feature of the most recent WhatsApp for Android beta update. Currently, users can find recommended channels via the “Find channels” option at the bottom of the status update page. It has reportedly been adjusted and now has a horizontal orientation with the update.

According to the report, beta testers who download and install the most recent WhatsApp for Android beta update from the Google Play Store can access these modifications. In the upcoming days, it might be made available to more people. It had not yet been rolled out to a member of the beta channel who works for Gadget 360 at the time of writing.

WhatsApp Working on Fix for Emoji Keyboard Crash

It is also reported that the platform is also working on a fix for the emoji keyboard crash that some users have encountered recently. It was spotted in WhatsApp for Android version 2.24.12.23 which is available on the Google Play Store.

This update is accessible to everyone who is enrolled in the WhatsApp beta program, the report adds.
