Apple has been actively expanding its presence in India following challenges in its primary manufacturing hub, China, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Seeking to mitigate disruptions to its manufacturing schedules, Apple diversified its operations, establishing a significant foothold in India and beyond. This diversification became even more pressing as iPhone sales experienced a notable decline in China.
In addition to its manufacturing efforts, Apple ventured into the retail sector in India last year, opening two physical stores in prime locations in New Delhi and Mumbai. A recent report by the Economic Times highlights the remarkable performance of these Apple Stores in India, which are being regarded as among the company’s top performers globally. While Apple has not officially commented on these claims, the report indicates strong revenues for these stores, each ranging between ₹190-₹210 crore in the previous fiscal year.
Industry insiders quoted by ET affirm that these stores have met Apple’s expectations, matching the success of some of its best-performing store launches. Consequently, the company is actively seeking locations for the establishment of three more company-owned stores.
Encouraged by this success, Apple is reportedly planning to expand its retail footprint to other premium locations across the country, including Pune, Bengaluru, and Noida. Apple Stores are valued for the immersive experience they offer potential buyers, providing personalized attention, comprehensive explanations, and assistance from knowledgeable staff.
Noteworthy store openings include Apple BKC Store in Mumbai on April 18, 2024, and Apple Saket in New Delhi on April 20, 2024, both inaugurated by CEO Tim Cook.
The ET report suggests that Apple may introduce its latest product, the Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, in India in the near future. Given the gadget’s intricate features requiring personalized demonstrations, an exclusive Apple Store environment would be ideal for showcasing its capabilities.
