In a groundbreaking move, Humane is set to launch AI Pin, the world’s first wearable with artificial intelligence (AI). After months of anticipation, the revolutionary device is slated for release in early 2024, with pre-orders commencing on November 16.

AI Pin aims to redefine the market by offering a seamless user experience beyond the capabilities of traditional smartphones. The device, which magnetically attaches to clothing, is powered by a Snapdragon processor and operates without a traditional screen. Instead, control is facilitated through a combination of voice commands and gestures.

Despite its compact form, AI Pin boasts a 13-megapixel camera with an Ultra-Wide lens, primarily designed for capturing photos (video functionality expected in future updates). The device also features a laser projector, enabling users to visualize information in the palm of their hand.

Although lacking a conventional screen, AI Pin incorporates a touch panel for specific actions, such as recording. In these instances, a warning light signals when data collection is in progress. The device attaches to clothing via a clip, which also serves as its battery.

Humane emphasizes the integration of AI capabilities, with the device able to connect to generative models like GPT-4 through proprietary software called AI Mic.

The primary focus of AI Pin is to simplify the user experience. Users can simply address the device with their commands, and AI Pin takes care of the rest. Humane aims to seamlessly integrate the experience provided by ChatGPT into daily life.

AI Pin’s functionalities are diverse, allowing users to make calls, send messages, summarize email inboxes, and even scan food items for nutritional information using voice commands.

However, this cutting-edge technology comes at a cost. AI Pin is priced at $699, with an additional monthly subscription fee of $24.

Heading the project at Humane are industry veterans Imran Chaudhru and Bethany Bongiorno, both former key members of Apple. Chaudhru played a pivotal role in designing the iPhone’s user interface (UI), while Bongiorno served as the director of software engineering on iOS. Their expertise positions AI Pin as a potential game-changer in the wearable technology landscape.
