The Karnataka government has sanctioned ₹56.88 crore to establish a Sub-Regional Science Centre and a Mini Planetarium in Vijayapura, along with two residential hostels in Babaleshwar and Vijayapura. Although initially proposed in the 2015-16 state budget, the science centre faced repeated setbacks. Now, with a revised estimate of ₹12.88 crore, the project has secured approval and will be executed under the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society.

The upcoming planetarium will feature an immersive dome, advanced projection equipment, interactive science exhibits, and an enhanced audio-visual system. Officials believe it will spark scientific interest and innovation among students.

Furthermore, the Cabinet has allocated ₹44 crore—₹22 crore each—for constructing permanent buildings for the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Residential School in Mamadapur and a pre-university residential college in Vijayapura. These institutions, currently housed in temporary rented spaces, lack essential amenities. The new structures will include classrooms, separate hostels for boys and girls, dining halls, faculty quarters, an auditorium, a boundary wall, and a modern drainage system.

This initiative is part of a broader ₹1,292.50 crore plan to develop 61 residential schools across Karnataka, aiming to enhance educational facilities for marginalized communities. The move is expected to provide a stable learning environment and better opportunities for students.
