Shivamogga: In a heartbreaking incident, 25-year-old Manjula from Seegahalla near Malur, Thirthahalli, passed away on Sunday morning at a private hospital in Shivamogga due to post-delivery complications.

She had given birth to a baby boy at the Thirthahalli taluk government hospital on February 10. However, excessive bleeding led to her being transferred to a private hospital, where she succumbed. This marks the second maternal death in Shivamogga within a month and the third in three months.

Manjula’s family has blamed the government hospital for negligence, alleging that doctors failed to act swiftly despite visible complications. They claim the medical team delayed referring her to a better-equipped facility, costing precious time.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Nataraj dismissed the allegations, stating that the hospital staff provided appropriate care but could not control her bleeding. He labeled it a rare medical complication and clarified that her parents were informed before shifting her to the private hospital.

Manjula, who had married last year, was expecting her first child. Her newborn is currently receiving medical care. The tragedy has sparked concerns over the quality of maternal healthcare in the region.
