Starting in early December, visitors to Shivamogga Zoo can enjoy a groundbreaking VR safari that brings the thrill of the wild to a safe, virtual setting. This immersive experience lets guests get up-close views of tigers, lions, and leopards without stepping into the forest.

The zoo has repurposed two retired buses, converting one into a 3D virtual reality theater at a cost of around Rs 2-3 lakh. Inside this theater, VR effects give the illusion of animals moving around, creating a 30-minute, interactive safari experience for up to 30 people at a time.

An official from Shivamogga Zoo explained that 360-degree cameras have been set up to capture the animals’ daily routines and behaviors in their habitats. Visitors can watch these engaging scenes from the animals’ enclosures and roaming areas, making it a unique, educational attraction for all ages. This initiative also supports the zoo’s popular animal adoption program, offering adopters a special video showcasing the animals’ feeding and natural behaviors for a deeper connection with their chosen animal.
