In a move that highlights civic inaction, Shivamogga traffic police have stepped up to repair hazardous roads at T Seenappa Setty Circle. Despite a recent visit by Upa Lokayukta K.N. Phaneendra, the Shivamogga City Corporation (SCC) failed to address the deteriorating road conditions.

Led by Police Sub-Inspector G. Thirumalesh Naik, the traffic police (west) staff, along with local volunteers, worked overnight on Thursday, using concrete to fill potholes that had been causing accidents. Their efforts, documented on social media, gained widespread support and ignited a debate about civic responsibility.

Naik stated that they had previously alerted authorities, but the rising accident count forced them to act. “It’s about public safety, not about who does the job,” he emphasized, noting that citizens contributed without any financial burden.

The damaged stretch, constructed under smart city funds, falls under SCC’s jurisdiction. However, SCC Commissioner Kavitha Yogappanavar claimed she was unaware of the specific issue but assured that engineers were instructed to address pothole repairs. She promised to investigate the matter.
