Singer Sonu Nigam has issued a public apology to the people of Karnataka following backlash over alleged comments made during a recent concert in Bengaluru. Posting on Instagram, Sonu wrote, “Sorry, Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always,” in a heartfelt message aimed at quelling the growing controversy.

The incident occurred during a live performance last month, where Sonu reportedly declined to sing in Kannada under pressure from a few aggressive individuals in the crowd. A video from the event showed Sonu comparing the situation to the Pahalgam attack, which further escalated the issue. An FIR was subsequently filed against the singer by the Avalahalli Police Station, prompting a summons for investigation.

On Monday, Sonu addressed the situation more directly, stating, “I’m not a young lad to take humiliation from anyone. I’m 51, and entitled to take offence when someone as young as my son threatens me publicly, in the name of language.” He clarified that Kannada is his second working language and emphasized that the provocation came from a small, disruptive group.

Fans rallied behind Sonu, flooding his post with support. Many praised his humility, while others criticized the individuals who instigated the confrontation. One user commented, “Karnataka, you’ve wronged a man who deeply respects your culture,” while another added, “He’s apologised multiple times. Where’s the accountability from the other side?”

Despite the row, Sonu remains scheduled to perform in Delhi later this year.
