In a moment of pride for Indian cinema, the Malayalam film ‘2018’ has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars for the year 2024. Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, this film is a powerful portrayal of the devastating Kerala floods that occurred in 2018.

The film, starring Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, and many others, resonated deeply with audiences as it depicted the harrowing struggles faced by families, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and others during the calamity. It’s a poignant reflection of real-life events.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala announced this significant achievement on social media, stating, “#BREAKING: #2018Movie – the Malayalam film will be India’s official entry to the #Oscars2024.”

‘2018’ has emerged as the second highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2023, following closely behind ‘Romancham.’ Produced by Venu Kunnappilly, CK Padma Kumar, and Anto Joseph under the banners of Kavya Film Company and PK Prime Productions, the film has made a lasting impact on both critics and audiences alike.
