Bengaluru: Director M.G. Srinivas, known for his work in Kannada cinema, is making waves in the industry with his upcoming heist-action-thriller film ‘Ghost.’ Not only does the film promise a compelling premise, but it’s also the second installment in a cinematic universe Srinivas has crafted, making him one of the few in Indian cinema to establish their own universe.

Building a Cinematic Universe

Srinivas’s cinematic universe began with the release of ‘Birbal Trilogy Case 1: Finding Vajramuni’ in 2019. ‘Ghost’ now picks up from the events of this first film, adding depth and complexity to the universe he’s creating. When asked about this achievement, Srinivas expressed his excitement, saying, “The idea to make the second part of ‘Birbal’ trilogy big has only been achieved thanks to the way ‘Ghost’ has shaped up. There will be a ‘Ghost 2’ as well. This film is very special, and it’s all thanks to Shivanna for making Ghost so power-packed.”

Star Power and Hype

One of the striking aspects of ‘Ghost’ is the star power it brings to the screen. The film features veteran actors Anupam Kher and Jayaram, creating significant anticipation and excitement around the project. Srinivas acknowledges the boost these actors provide and the opportunity to elevate Kannada cinema, saying, “Anupam Kher sir and Jayaram sir’s presence comes as a big boost to the film. We are hoping to take Kannada films a notch higher with this production. A big thank you to Sandesh Productions for backing this endeavor.”

Technical Excellence

Srinivas is determined to excel in the technical aspects of ‘Ghost.’ The film employs VFX and CGI techniques creatively, marking a significant milestone in Kannada cinema. Notably, ‘Ghost’ features de-aging technology, a first for Sandalwood, where actor Shivarajkumar’s character undergoes a transformation to resemble his looks from earlier hit films like ‘Anand’ and ‘Rathasapthami’ in specific parts of the story.

Apart from CGI, the film showcases meticulous stunt work, involving three different stunt directors, including Telugu fight master Venkat. This approach diversifies the action sequences, offering unique patterns and styles to the fights.

The Plot of ‘Ghost’

‘Ghost’ is an action-heist thriller that revolves around a man’s quest for justice, all set within the confines of a jail and unfolding over a span of 48 hours. The film is directed by M.G. Srinivas and produced by Sandesh Nagaraj. Srinivas also penned the screenplay for ‘Ghost,’ featuring music composed by Arjun Janya.

Multi-Language Release

‘Ghost’ is set to hit theaters on October 19, 2023, with a wide release planned across multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The film is creating considerable buzz, not just for its star-studded cast but also for its potential to elevate the technical standards of Kannada cinema.

As the release date draws nearer, ‘Ghost’ promises to deliver a cinematic experience that combines action, suspense, and technical innovation, cementing M.G. Srinivas’s position as a director to watch in the Indian film industry.
