Shivarajkumar films sold more tickets than present blockbuster films

Shivarajkumar has given many big blockbusters. However in the recent past, his films are not doing such business as it used to do in 90’s and early 2000. The reason for that may be poor script selection or poor promotion of his films. Jayanna, a popular distributor said that films of Shivarajkumar used to sell more tickets than the present blockbuster films.“Today, the top three high collection films in Sandalwood are “Mungaaru Male”, “Mr & Mrs Ramachari” and “Kirik Party.” However the number of tickets sold for these films are less than that of blockbuster films of Shivarajkumar or legendary actors like Vishnuvardhan and Rajkumar. Due to high entrance fees, the revenues are high. If we consider footfalls in theatre, then Shivarajkumar’s film in the past had more than present blockbusters,” said Jayanna.

The trend seems to be same everywhere. With piracy, internet and other forms of entertainment easily available, people’s last preference is to watch the film in theatres. This was not the case a decade or two decades ago. The recent Hindi blockbuster “Dangal” is said to have had nearly Rs 3.8 Crore footfalls and it is the highest grossing Indian film ever. However, if we compare the footfalls with “Hum Aapke Hai Kaun”, which released in 1995, it is very less. “Hum Aapke Hai Kaun” reportedly had more than Rs 7 Crore footfalls.
