Need to develop students as resource not as product: Noronha

Dubai: The 22nd episode of NewsKarnataka.com’s Namaste Teacher was held on Saturday May 14 at 6.30 pm IST.

The guest teacher for the evening was Alwyn Arun Noronha. The special guests of the evening were his students, Sandeep Gujaran, Mechanical Design Engineer, Grimmel Wassertechnik, GmbH , Germany, Roshan D’Silva Vamanjoor, Employed in Dubai, Frenita Tauro, Technology Lead , Infosys Ltd., Mudipu, Mangaluru, Mohan Kumar, Research Scholar, Department of Studies in Physics, Mangalore University and Belsi Goveas, Project Manager, Unilever.

The event host was Kiran Nirkan.

Through teacher-student interaction, the series strives to highlight teachers and their impact on students. The show was premiered on youtube.com/newskarnataka.

Kiran Nirkan introduced the guests and welcomed them.

Alwyn Arun Noronha spoke about his career and singing passion in the introduction and warmed up the session.

Student Roshan D’Silva sharing his experience with the teacher Alwyn said, ” Generally teacher is someone with whom we posess the emotions like shy and fear. But with Alwyn sir it was never that way. He was the one who turned my difficult subject into a favourite one.”

Belsi Goveas shared, “I was never a first bench student. Alwyn sir brought me onto the first bench from the last bench. It was a massive change which I couldn’t digest those days. But today I give sir the credits for understanding the potential of a student.”

Sandeep Gujaran expressing his gratitude to his lecturer said, “He was a motivator and a guide. Today, I am indebted to Alwyn sir for whatever position I am in.”

Frenita Tauro expressed, “Alwyn sir was a sharp shooter. His chalk would directly aim the disturbing student in the class and quickly entire class would turn attentive.” She also recalled the notorious deeds of students as an everlasting memory of student life.

Mohan Kumar expressed pride saying, “Understanding the capabilty of a student is the responsibilty of the teacher. Alwyn sir has attained a higher level in performing that duty.”

Teacher Alwyn Arun Noronha listening to his students expressed the feeling of fear of greater responsibility in the coming days and appreciated the students.

Expressing the ‘Role of teachers in the evolution of a generation’ students expressed, “If a missile man of India wanted himself to be recognised as a teacher, there indeed should be something holy about the profession. There is a need for better teachers in building a better society,” opined students.

We need to develop students as a resource not as a product. Inculcating a indiscriminative mindset in the innocent minds and uniting them regardless of religion and caste can bring in a better and beautiful society told Alwyn Arun Noronha with his hopeful eyes. ‘Education is a right, avail it despite hurdles’ advised Alwyn Noronha.

Both teacher and students appreciated the fruitful initiative of NewsKarnataka.
