Mungaru Male’s scintillating lyrics and music seems to have brought a revolution to the lackluster Kannada music industry. Abhishek Rao, Assistant Professor in the anesthesia department of Kasturba Medical College has created a cover version of Mungaru male – 2 which has gone viral among music buffs in coastal Karnataka, incidentally a location that enjoys the monsoon like no other!. This young bachelor doctor has sung his version of ‘Sariyagi Nenapide’ and ‘Gamanisu’, from ‘Maungaru Male -2’ and won accolades from the original film team.

Hailing from a family of doctors, Abhishek Rao is a postgraduate in medicine with a heart for music and a brain for medicine. These two songs from Mungaru Male 2 enthralled him no end and he decided to create a cover version. Versatile in carnatic music, Bharatha Natyam, Abhishek who was trained by Varijakshi R.Bhat, stood 90th at Indian Idol 2012. He could not proceed further as he had to make a choice between music and education at that point of time. Abhishek also came out thirtieth from the music reality show Sarigama and has lent his voice to Kannada movie Majestic Express and Tulu movies Thottil and Guddada Bootha. Winner of the Mangaluru Idol and the Voice of Udupi titles, Abhishek led by renowned Kannada music director Hamsalekha has performed in ganayana shows held in Davanage and Kumta.

He says he was greatly indebted to Manipal University from where he graduated, and he was ably supported in his mission to create the cover version by renowned Kannada singer Indu Nagaraj, music director Arjun janya and music recording studio Jhenkar.

The cover version which is now creating ripples among youth on social media has a talented team behind its success. Music was scored by Tere sang yara cover version fame music composer Stephan Frank while Varun rendered the flute and Justin guitar. Darryl Mascarenhas was involved in sound mixing and Shinoy Jospeh recorded the soothing number at Mangaluru’s CAD media house. Sandeep Holla, eyeing everything from behind his camera recorded the captivating moments that reflected the musical mood of the song. Video editing of the documentary, albums and advertisements for the cover version was carried out by young and creative Vivek Gowda. Newskarnataka.com has supported this creative team as a media partner.

Overall the cover version is a conglomeration of young, budding and active and creative talent from the coastal region of Karnataka.
