‘Hadilu Bhoomi Krushi Aandolana’ started in Karnataka has gained momentum in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district, as the government announced to remove all the legal obstacles and initiated necessary steps to promote cultivation in barren lands. Many people including co-operative societies have voluntarily joined hands to further this initiative.
Speaking to News Karnataka Narendra Rai Derla said, “I am literally happy to see that people are coming forward to restart cultivation in the barren lands. I appreciate the efforts of the cooperative societies who are working in this regard and encouraging people to indulge themselves in agriculture.”
Further he said, “recently I was made aware that three Muslim men have voluntarily provided their fertile agricultural land to a temple for a year to cultivate paddy. It is the perfect example of religious harmony,” he added.
“Eliya Vishnumurthy Temple is a local Hindu temple situated in Sullia. The temple has planned to organise the Bramhakalashotsava ceremony at the temple next year. Meanwhile, Hadilu Bhoomi campaign gained momentum here so the temple committee decided to use the homegrown paddy for preparing prasadam, with an intention to encourage the devotees to indulge in agricultural activities,” he said.
“The search for lands to grow paddy started, and it was difficult for them as most of the land in the town is owned by the Muslims in the nearby areas,” he added. That is when among those Muslim landowners Sattar, Puttu Beary, and Abbas Beary voluntarily donated their fertile land to the temple for a year. The land owned by them was their only source of livelihood. They have not only donated their land to the temple for a year free of cost but also joined their hands with Hindu devotees in the cultivation of paddy. This is a rare example of religious harmony, where people selflessly joini hands in agricultural activities regardless of religion,” he expressed.
