About Kadri Manjunatha Swamy temple:

Coastal city of Mangaluru is a hub of art and known for it’s culture and tradition. The city is surrounded by religious places. Every temple here has its own history and a story to tell. One among the historical temples in Mangaluru is Kadali Kshetra in Kadri. Kadri Manjunatha Swamy temple is one such religious place which is also called as Kadire, Kadri, Kadali Kshetra.

History:

The temple was built back in between 10 and 12th century. According to the Bharadhwaja literature (Bharadwaja Samhita), Lord Parashurama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu made a rigorous meditation on Sahyadri mountain region seeking a new land for his shelter. Lord Vishnu appeared before him and suggested to meditate upon him at Kadalivana (Kadri). But Kadalivana was occupied by the Ocean King who refused to leave. Parashurama in anger roared upon Ocean King with his weapon prompting the latter to leave the land. That is how Mangaluru came into existence.

The gigantic Hanuman statue and Nandi statue at Kadri Kshetra is also one of the main attractions. The 9 ponds surrounded by garden here never dry up. Mahaganapathi, Durga Devi, Ayyappa Swamy and Anjaneya temples are also special attractions at the historical place.

Pandavas cave:

It is believed that the Pandavas at the time of their exile spent a year here at the cave and left for Kashi. There is also a live grave (Jeevantha Samadhi) of Malini Devi and Seethabavi Katte.

Yogi Matt:

Kalabhairava is the deity here. We can find Yajnakunda created by Parashurama, Jaya Jawala Mahammayi Gudi, Shiva Shakti Mandira at the matt.

Thousands of devotees throng to Kadri temple every year and it gives peace of mind and satisfaction to every soul.
