Village TV, a web-based village level visual media outreach program is all set to create 1.4 million jobs pan India and viewership of 65 crores across the nation. The idea is to combine the creativity, enthusiasm, and energy of the youth with the power of media technology to provide an ‘earn while you learn’ offering to more than a million youth in the rural areas of India.

How?
The idea is to issue one million Nano Opportunity Cards (NOCs). These NOCs will be a passport to a bright future for a million youth in rural areas. They will bring along with them a fast track Bank Account, an Instant Revenue Opportunity, and Technology Support. The NOCs will be distributed through Bank Branches, Campus Campaigns, District Administration, etc. There is no capital investment by any of the parties, but its an opportunity for all to earn through revenue sharing and Nano rural brand creations that will sustain in the long run.

The NOC holders will be mentored by Partner Institutions and a GYAN (Global Youth Activity Network) team identified and engaged in this noble activity by NV Paulose of Global TV and Lal Goel, Chairman of Organ Donation (India) Foundation and GYAN, and the Owner of Pandit Resort and Spa, Moodabidri in Mangalore.

The NOC holders will be responsible to bring to the world through the Village TV network news, views, best practices, culture, traditions, and traditional secrets in health, food, and agriculture of more than 6 lakh villages spread across 739 districts of India. (2011 Census)

Village TV is at the core of this rural youth empowerment program
The web-based village level visual media outreach program on the lines of community radio, known as ‘Village TV’ was launched at a formal ceremony held at Peri Anganawadi, Hosangadi village, Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District on Thursday, October 24, 2019. It was a grand rurally tinged – to match the purpose – ceremony. More importantly, it is a modern avatar of Mahatma Gandhi’s dream to make the village the cornerstone of development. Village TV is a collaborative initiative undertaken by Spearhead Publications Pvt Ltd (Mangaluru), and Global TV, India’s first Internet TV with other stakeholders.

The Chief Guests for the occasion, included Dr. C V Ananda Bose IAS (Rtd), Principal Advisor, Heritage Project, Government of India. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof P Subramanya Yadapadithaya, Dr. Santosh Kumar Pattanayak, Former MD, Indian Railways Financial Corporation (New Delhi), CA Valerian Dalmaida, Mentor, Spearhead Group. Alva’s Education Foundation trustee Vivek Alva presided over the program.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bose said, “The media has to focus on villages today. Change is only possible if the truth is prioritized. Today, India has transformed from a nation of mysticism, culture, and heritage to a globally-recognized country. India has seen further improvement in the development of villages and the country as well.” He opined that all credit for India’s goodwill should be attributed to the mothers who are dedicated to nurturing their children with human values and to primary school teachers who are great pillars of strength to our children.

Prof Yadapadithaya said, “The development of a village is possible if people have a dream and make a commitment towards that dream. When we put our thoughts into action with confidence and will, the village becomes a kingdom. Village TV is a great idea to highlight the problems and challenges of the village and to get the attention of non-resident Indians,” adding that Mangalore University was always involved in village development campaigns by bringing together students, rural people, and the media.

Recalling Gandhiji’s contributions, Spearhead Media mentor, media visionary CA Valerian Dalmaida said, “Gandhiji had worked for Gram Swaraj and Village TV is a firm step that takes the vision forward. Our villages are rich in resources. Development is not just about infrastructure. It is about instilling values and relationships between people. Non-Resident Indians are always closely connected to their native places and they want to help their villages grow.”

Hosangadi – the chosen one
The Hosangadi Grama Panchayat was declared as a model Grama Panchayat in 2007 and has undertaken several progressive Eco-friendly initiatives and what are considered by many to be best practices. These include My House; My Road, My House; Clean House, My Shop; Clean Shop, My Plant; My Tree. Participating in the launch of Village TV is just the beginning of a new chapter in its progress.

Village TV – the concept

Village TV has been conceptualized and initiated by N V Paulose, Director, Media Innovations, Spearhead Media Pvt. Ltd, the owners of the popular Karnataka-focused website www.newskarnataka.com, and Chairman Global TV, the first Internet TV.

NV Paulose told News Karnataka, “It has long been my dream to start a channel like this. With 70 percent of our population living in villages and the village being the rice bowl of the country, there are secrets galore there that the world can benefit from – Traditional knowledge on a variety of subjects that can be applied to issues that the urban world is grappling with. In turn, once the world sees the potential of a village, they will be ready to come and contribute to its development, with time, skills, and money. So it is a win-win solution to the problem of migration from our villages to the city. It is only the media that can bridge the gap between the rural and urban populace. It is this basic fact that helped me conceive this unique project.” Village TV hopes to take the concept of Rural Empowerment and visibility to its logical conclusion with the issue of Nano Opportunity Cards on a national scale, in one of the largest Youth engagement drives ever in the country.

Inspiring and facilitating excellence in the youth

The Institute for Media Internship and Practice working at Spearhead Media Pvt. Ltd. will join hands with eminent personalities and institutions across the country in implementing the program on a war footing. Youth re-building India is the concept of the campaign and is in line with the PM’s Call for an Atmanirbhar Bharat. A lecture series to inspire the youth to take leadership roles has also been initiated. It’s called the C++ Challenge – Character, Competence, and Commitment. The first lecture in this series is delivered by Dr. P. Subramanya Yadapadithaya, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University. Watch here
