Excellence In Research Quality Kuvempu University Gets Int’l Recognition

Shivamogga: Kuvempu University is ranked 56th in the SCImago Institutions Rankings, adding another feather to its cap. The university is also ranked 41st in research, 38th in Innovation and 26th in Social Impact criteria.

Expressing happiness over the achievement of the university, Prof. B P. Veerabhadrappa, Vice Chancellor of Kuvempu University told News Karnataka that, “These ranking by various independent agencies shows core strength of research and publication quality of our faculty. We have shown consistency in our performance from the past few years. We are reaping results of hard work of our faculty members and the vision of previous Vice Chancellors.”

SCImago Institutions Rankings is a science evaluation resource that assess universities and research institutions around the world. They focus on three sets of indicators based on research performance, innovation outputs and societal impact.

Currently, 148 scholars are enrolled in the University’s PhD programmes. Science has 85 scholars, while Social Science, MBA, and Education and others have 63.

Faculty members from various departments at the university are working on 23 research projects worth a total of Rs 13 crore, which are financed by state and central government.

Notable among them are projects taken up by Dr. Kumaraswamy H M of Biotechnology titled “Embelin can modulate Ataxia-Telangiectasia mutated (ATM) signalling in Nicotine induced chemoresistant pancreatic cancer” and Dr. Shobha Rani of Commerce named “A study on problems and prospects of contract farming under domain agriculture and rural development” since 2019.

Prof. V. Krishna of Biotechnology has been conducting research on “Production and supply of tissue cultured & disease-free banana var. Puttabale to the SC/ST & weaker section farmers of Karnataka for economic development-An extended project” and Prof. M. Krishnappa of Applied Botany has been conducting research on “Diversity molecular taxonomy & bioprospecting of xylariales in the Western Ghats region of Shimoga.

Since 2015 Prof. V. Krishna of the Bio-tech Department has been working on a project named “Bioprospecting of Medicinal Plants in the Western Ghats.”

Kuvempu University is also ranked 73rd in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and first among traditional institutions in Karnataka in the Karnataka Institutional Ranking Framework (KSURF). It is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with an ‘A’ grade (NAAC).
