Even as the Delta variant surge eases and several countries resume trade and tourism, global Covid – 19 infections has topped 252.4 million on Saturday November 13. More than 5.08 million deaths have been reported so far.

Delta plus variant which has been found in 42 nations with 93 per cent of cases are reported from UK. It has once again become the ‘epicentre’ of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to a recent report, the European Union’s diseases agency warned on Friday November 12 that ten nations in the 27-member union are facing a Covid-19 situation of “extreme concern,” warning that the pandemic has spread across the continent rapidly.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Covid deaths in Europe has increased by 10 per cent in the last week. Daily cases in United Kingdom stood at 40,375 as of Saturday with 145 deaths. Following the surge, European countries have implemented new restrictions and lockdowns in order to stop the spread of the deadly virus. A move in this regard was formed as it is thought to be early sign of yet another wave.

In a series of tweet shared by the official twitter account of BNO Newsroom shows that there is a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases across the globe. In one of the tweets, it was stated that US, has recorded 132,486 new cases. The death toll stood 2,124 for the day and 45,716 has been hospitalised for treatment. Russia reported 1,241 new coronavirus deaths, the biggest one-day increase on record, and 39,256 new cases on Saturday. It was also reported that Ireland reported 4,483 active cases, which is the highest single-day tally reported after January 2021.

Germany recorded 47, 956 new Covid-19 cases and 229 deaths. However, cases in Israel is declining with the country reporting lowest number of Covid cases since July. The number of patients in hospital has also dropped drastically.

As per a daily report from Johns Hopkins University’s Centre for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE), the United States remains the worst-affected country, with 46,976,314 cases and 761,715 deaths, respectively on Saturday. India follows in the second place with 34,414,186 cases and Brazil third with 21,939,196 in terms of infections. The reports from other countries are quite alarming as well.

Even as people adjust to the new normal following the virus’s outbreak in China in 2019, the shocking reports of spike in the number of Covid cases has created a sense of unease situation among people. The WHO warned last week that the highly transmissible Delta variant is causing an alarming increase in infections in Central Asia too. According to the reports, more than 7.41 billion vaccinations has been administered among people globally yet the cases are on rise.
