In stressful circumstances, the Mangaluru Round Table Kitchen is setting an example for society by keeping humanity first. People who have been tested positive for Covid are given free meals from this organisation. The Mangalore Ladies Circle – 82 and Mangalore Round Table – 115, along with their respective parent groups, initiated this project in the city.

Round Table is an international organisation. Speaking to NewsKarnataka Royster D’Souza, Vice Chairman, Mangalore Round Table – 115 said that, “We are part of Round Table India (RTI). Basically, we provide free food and distribute it to people who are unable to get their daily meals. Last lockdown we offered grocery kits to people in and around Mangaluru. This year, we came up with the idea for a new project called Round Table Indian Kitchen. This is also organised throughout India, with over 8000 meals being served daily.”

The team consists of ten members and this is a self-funded project. The initiative in Mangaluru began a week ago. “People who are tested with Covid and are at home isolation themselves are given free home cooked food and it will also be delivered free of charge. The public has shown its support and the number of people in need of regular meals is growing day by day. Those interested in using this service can confirm their order by 10 a.m. for lunch and 6 p.m. for dinner,” added Royster.

He also went on to say that they can avail this facility by submitting the Covid positive report with the organisation.  So far, we’ve been able to provide 30 meals a day in the city.

Mangalore Ladies Circle and Mangalore Round Table have previously contributed to children’s school fees, installed classrooms and toilet blocks in government schools, and donated furniture and renovated classrooms of government schools.  The organisation hopes that this new initiative would help the ones who are struggling to arrange meals during home isolation.
