Rajasthan Royals’ rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines by becoming the youngest player in IPL history at just 14 years and 23 days. The left-handed batter debuted in the 2025 IPL fixture against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur, stepping in for captain Sanju Samson, who missed the match due to an abdominal injury. Riyan Parag took over the captaincy duties.
Suryavanshi, initially listed as an Impact Substitute, opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal in RR’s run-chase after LSG set a target of 181. His first-ball six off Shardul Thakur stunned spectators and commentators alike, especially former IPL star Shane Watson, who was in the commentary box.
Demonstrating remarkable composure beyond his years, Suryavanshi went on to score 34 runs off 20 balls, including two sixes and a four. His shot selection and power-hitting immediately earned him praise from cricket fans and experts across the country.
Suryavanshi, who was bought for ₹1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, has already made waves in domestic and youth cricket. He played a pivotal role in India’s U-19 team, scoring a century against Australia and delivering standout performances in the Asia Cup.
RR captain Riyan Parag lauded the youngster’s presence and mentioned the team is striving for consistent performances. With this memorable debut, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has firmly announced his arrival on the big stage.
