Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to enforce stricter guidelines in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season following multiple incidents that have raised serious concerns about discipline, security and adherence to anti-corruption protocols.
According to sources within the board, the decision comes after a string of events that made the governing body “uncomfortable”, prompting urgent discussions with IPL franchises to prevent further lapses.
A senior BCCI official, speaking to ANI, said the board had no option but to step in mid-season. “We are forced to issue guidelines in this season of IPL. We saw many incidents which make the board uncomfortable. We are in talks with IPL franchises to ensure no untoward incidents happen again. There has been lots of indiscipline in this IPL,” the source said.
Stricter access control measures planned
The new guidelines are expected to significantly tighten access to players and team environments, especially in sensitive areas such as team hotels, dressing rooms and transport facilities.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla had earlier confirmed that the board was working on fresh regulations aimed at controlling player access and preventing unauthorised interactions. Speaking in Lucknow last week, he emphasised that the measures were necessary to uphold transparency and the integrity of the tournament.
“The access that the players have will be controlled; unauthorised people will not be allowed to meet the players, neither in hotels nor on buses, to ensure the transparency of the IPL,” Shukla said.

He pointed out that certain outsiders were seen accompanying players and support staff, entering team hotels and even accessing private areas such as players’ rooms — actions that directly violate IPL’s anti-corruption framework.
More concerning for the board was the observation that some franchise officials and owners were interacting with players in restricted zones, where such engagement is not permitted under tournament rules.

In another incident, Rajasthan Royals team manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder was fined ₹1 lakh for using a mobile phone near the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati — an area where communication devices are strictly regulated due to anti-corruption concerns.
These episodes, while not directly linked to match-fixing or major violations, were seen as indicators of a growing culture of indiscipline that required immediate corrective action.
Franchises under scrutiny
With the BCCI now in active discussions with franchise managements, teams are expected to implement tighter internal controls and ensure compliance with the updated guidelines.
Franchises may be asked to maintain stricter records of authorised personnel, enforce access badges and limit movement in sensitive areas. Security protocols at hotels and match venues are also likely to be reviewed and strengthened.
